Alternatives to ODS and F-gases

A variety of environmentally friendly alternatives to ODS and F-gases is available for different applications to avoid the use and emission these substances.

In refrigeration and air conditioning, HCFCs (especially R22) and HFCs are today still highly relevant, but they could be replaced by environmentally friendly alternatives in most cases.

CO2 (R744), ammonia (R717) and water (R718) are so called “natural” refrigerants, which do not contribute to ozone depletion or climate change. Furthermore, unsaturated HFCs (hydrofluoroolefins; HFOs) and mixtures (blends) of saturated and unsaturated HFCs can be used. However, these blends mostly still have a high global warming potential and are not yet available everywhere.

In foam blowing alternatives without any ozone depleting potential and without any harmful effect to climate change also play a significant role worldwide.
